Leaf Peeping Time is Here

1600 block of Avon Pl.

Fall foliage has finally arrived to Georgetown. And there are plenty places to take it in.

In 2013, Casey Trees pulled together some recommended walking routes around the city to take in the brightly changing leaves. In Georgetown it recommended a meandering trail through the heart of the village to enjoy its sugar maples:

Georgetown Time Machine: Old Dumbarton Club Vista

This week for Georgetown Time Machine, GM explores a snapshot of a lovely pool, now long gone. The photo, above, is taken from the April 17, 1932 issue of the Washington Times. The caption reads:

An unusual view in the rear of the old Dumbarton Club at Wisconsin Avenue and R St. now the residence of Alexander Kirk.

The property was featured because it was on the annual garden tour (which was only on its fourth edition that year). The article elaborates that the Dumbarton Club was “in years gone by the mecca of well known Capital tennis players.” It was open to the public for the first time that year.

Vote Mathews for ANC!

If you are a registered voter, you should have received a mail-in ballot over the last week. And if you live in northwest Georgetown, I hope you will fill it out to vote for me for ANC! Here is how it appears on the ballot:

I’ve discussed my priorities for the ANC here, but if you’re a regular reader of the Georgetown Metropolitan you’ll know that, above all else, I love Georgetown and am wholly dedicated to it. I will bring the passion and commitment I’ve brought to this website to the role of ANC commissioner. I hope I’ve earned your support over these 15 years (and counting) covering our great neighborhood.

Here is a map of the SMD to see if you live in my district:

The district is mostly just north of Volta and west of Wisconsin, with the exception of the upper part of 32nd St. and the nearby blocks of Reservoir, R and S streets.

If you can and will vote for me, first, thank you!! Second, if you can, please let your neighbors know about your support, it is worth a million bucks in terms of persuasion. I’m in the process of canvassing, and if you’d be willing to accompany me on your block, I’d be hugely grateful! Please email me and we’ll set it up!

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Last night at about 5:00 there was a car jacking at 34th and Volta. A food delivery driver was out of her car when the thieves stole it and sped the wrong way up 34th St.
  • Hobo bags opens in former John Fluevog space.
