Good morning Georgetown, hope you enjoyed the mild early summer temperature this weekend:

  • Cupcakes replacing wedding cakes? GM admits that he went that route too. DC Examiner quizes Georgetown Cupcake on the trend
  • The Post takes a trip down memory lane to visit Georgetown’s long-gone Tehan’s Restaurant. Interesting tidbit: it used to be illegal to stand up holding an alcoholic drink in the District.
  • Greater Greater Washington takes a look at the GUTS bus issue, an issue Vox Populi has been all over

The Morning Metropolitan

Good Monday morning Georgetown, hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. Here’s the latest:

  • Georgetown Cupcake is expanding to Bethesda. Will its cache survive attempts to go chain? We’ll see…
  • More Nordic jazz this week on the roof of the Swedish Embassy. GM will be there Wednesday night, if not just for the amazing views.
  • GM missed this on Friday, but Saturday marked the first Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market in front of Hardy Middle School and across from the Social Safeway (construction). This of course is also the site of the Georgetown Flea Market. So is the lot in Georgetown? Burleith? Glover Park? Who cares, they’re both great things to have around. (If you must know, the answer is Georgetown)

Is Georgetown Cupcake Really Worth This?

Georgetown Cupcakery's Line

Georgetown Cupcake turns a year old on St. Valentine’s Day, and there are still crazy long lines out the door to buy $3.00 cupcakes. Are they really that good that you’ll sit in line for a half an hour?

GM’s been by and it was damn good (it was the Chocolate Mint) but there wasn’t a line at the time. There’s no way GM would wait in a line for them (particularly when Baked and Wired makes equally, if not superior, cupcakes without the wait). How about you? Do other Georgetowners wait in line for them, or has it just become a tourist thing?
