Georgetown’s long wait for Fios may be coming to an end soon. Verizon first started rolling the service (which essentially brings fiber optic-level telecom services right to your door) in DC way back in 2009. At the time it was clear that Georgetown would be last on the list. But even considering that, it has taken even longer than GM expected.
GM has actually heard multiple reports that some people have already had it installed in Georgetown. But he hasn’t been able to confirm. He has seen evidence of Verizon installing cables, like here:
If you go on the Verizon Fios website, it lets you type in your address and see if Fios is available. GM entered a couple random addresses around Georgetown and got a mix of responses. Some (including for his block) said it was available “weeks away”, while others gave less encouraging responses that it will be “available soon”.
So if you’re looking to ditch your cable or satellite provider, you finally might have another option soon.
