Wit the completion of the newest mural in Georgetown, GM thought it would be nice to run through the other murals around the neighborhood.

The first is the aforementioned mural, the JFK/Ich Bin Ein Berliner mural on the side of the Berliner. It was painted this month by Rodrigo Pradel.

The next mural is on the side of Just Paper and Tea at 3232 P St. It was painted in 2015 as part of a Shop Small event. It was painted by Aniekan Udofia. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• How responsible is a child for his father paying $400,000 to bribe his son’s way into GU?
• Come out and help clean up the canal this Saturday.

1500 block of 33rd St.

The Georgetown cat cafe, Crumbs and Whiskers, will be moving its primary location from its original location at 3211 O St. to 3101 M St.

The M St. location is already the site of the store’s temporary kitten cafe pop-up. When that pop-up ends, the full cat cafe will consolidate there. Currently the pop-up is scheduled to run through June, so likely by July or August to O St. location will close.

This is a bit of a bummer. GM used to walk by the O St. location everyday after picking up his daughter from nursery school. Even if you’re not a “cat person” (and GM is not) you can’t help being charmed by a window full of lazy cats. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Apparently Georgetown has a soap company, and it’s expanding.
• You can spend the day foraging for food and then have it cooked up at the Four Seasons.

GM was reminded of a fantastic article from Deadspin a few years ago by the great DC writer Dave McKenna. It is all about the decades-long grudge between John Thompson Jr., the legendary Hoya basketball coach, and Morgan Wootten, the equally legendary basketball coach from Dematha high school. And perhaps the most pointed moment of the rivalry took place at the Jelleff Boys and Girls Club here in Georgetown.

As the article explains, Wootten was already a legend when Thompson, a DC native, took over the coaching job at St. Anthony’s high school in the late 1960s. Thompson was quickly successful at building a program at St. Anthony’s, and Wootten allegedly wasn’t interested in doing anything to help Thompson. The story goes that Wootten actively undermined Thompson and took steps to avoid playing St. Anthony’s. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• High school students pitch in to clean up Mt. Zion Cemetery.
• The Committee of 100 doesn’t like the proposed changes to the C&O Canal, even though (because?) they believe the changes would be popular.

As part of an effort to refresh its brand, the Georgetown BID released a new video that genuinely makes Georgetown look way cooler that it actually is. With plenty of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shots, it’s a tad overwhelming. But if it helps turn around the vacancies, all the better!
