The Lost Plans to Destroy Georgetown
A little over two years ago, GM came across an image in the archives of the Library of Congress that was a bit alarming. It was a map of a proposed “Francis Scott Key Boulevard” which would run from the Key Bridge down M St. to Pennsylvania Ave. This is the image:

As you can see, this plan would call for a large traffic circle where Key Bridge meets M St. M St. would be replaced by a grand boulevard interspersed with three different medians. All of Georgetown from N St. south would, apparently, be destroyed.

But none of those plans called for anything like this for Georgetown. (Most simply used the Whitehurst Freeway, which would have been attached to an expressway to the west that would cross the Potomac at a new Three Sisters Bridge and link up to the GW Parkway near Spout Run.) ANC Preview: Whadya Want?
The Georgetown ANC will meet next Monday for its February meeting. Here’s what interesting on the agenda:

Who knows, but we’ll see what the BID has to say.
There will be an update on the effort to rehabilitate the Montrose Park tennis courts. This is an effort that has stretched on for many years now, and hopefully we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The courts are currently in terrible shape. Continue reading

House Fire on P St.
The house at 3337 erupted into flames Saturday morning. It drew a huge response from the DC fire department. By the time it was out, it appears to have destroyed the entire interior of the house (at least the front rooms).
From what GM heard, it was an electric fire. Thankfully nobody was in the house at the time. GM heard from a neighbor that the residents were actually just coming home from a trip to California on Saturday. Continue reading
