Next week the ANC will hold its last meeting of the year. This will be a somewhat unique meeting because it will be held on the campus of GU at the Leavey Center (it’s still at it’s normal time: Monday 6:30).
The item on the agenda that jumps out at GM is the one regarding the zoning application by the Georgetown Park Mall to add a bowling alley.
GM was excited to hear the plans. And so far most of the people he’s spoke with around Georgetown about it have been in support of it too. However, GM is aware that some of the Georgetown Park condo dwellers are less enthused about the idea. Next Monday should be the first airing of any objections. Continue reading

GM has learned of a few new retail developments. Nothing Earth-shattering, but some good news in it.
The first one is that something called Alex and Ani (+) Energy is moving into 3070 M St. This is apparently a “bangle bracelet” store. This seems to be more of the same for Georgetown (stores where young women spend their parents’ money). But this space is not huge so it’s not exactly a big opportunity loss.
The second is that Cady’s Alley is adding a Bonobo’s Guideshop. Bonobo’s is a primarily online retailer of men’s clothing. But they do have a couple brick and mortar stores (including one in Bethesda). This would be their sixth such store. Continue reading

From 2008 till 2010, the Georgetown BID put on a holiday street fair in December called Merriment in Georgetown. While the first year was cursed with wickedly cold weather, the subsequent years seemed like qualified successes to GM: not exactly Christkindl Market, but a good start for something that could eventually grow into a really special tradition.
Sadly the BID decided last year to no longer hold the street fair. It simply was not producing enough of a splash at the merchants’ cashiers to make it worth while. But the BID is carrying on with festive events nonetheless. One thing they are actually extending this year is the free pedicab rides they offered just one day last year. Each Saturday from Nov. 24th through December 15th, there will be free pedicab rides around the neighborhood. Continue reading
