Merriment in Georgetown This Sunday

Come out this Sunday for the second annual Merriment in Georgetown festival. The festivities kick off at 3:00 and the current forecast is a high of 46 (so hopefully we’ll avoid last year’s bone-chilling colds).

There will be horse-drawn carriage rides, entertainment, food, Santa Claus and much, much more. This festival is a great addition to the Georgetown calender and GM hopes to see you all out there!

On another note: GM would like to compliment the BID on its great marketing of this event. The posters and website are wonderfully graphic and nostalgic. If only the BID could take the $30,000 it spends on its own website and make it look as good as the Merriment in Georgetown website. That would truly be money well spent.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Apparently the Merriment of Georgetown decorations were “controversial“, according to the Georgetowner.
  • Don’t forget that the ANC meeting is tomorrow night, not tonight.

Few disagreed that marketing is essential to Georgetown’s business campaign. The line in the sand is drawn, however, over how exactly these funds should be appropriated. The resulting skirmish looks microcosmically like a Congressional budgetary war, with one side advocating greater revenue, the other more judicious spending of present funds.

By the end of the meeting, it would appear the first side carried the day; by strawpoll the group decided to reconsidered (upward)  the tax assessment structure.

While they are considering their marketing budget and strategy GM has one suggestion for the BID: Update your webpage and initiate an integrated advertising campaign. Continue reading

BID Budgets Up to $100,000 for Overtime Cops

The Georgetown Current reported yesterday that the Georgetown BID resolved to budget up to $100,000 for the coming months to hire off-duty MPD police officers to patrol Georgetown streets during “peak hours”. Unlike the CAG Neighborhood Guards program, these officers will still have all the powers of a normal cop to arrest suspects, etc. Continue reading
