We’re Not So Different After All

This weekend the New York Times published a fascinating chart displaying the top ten movie rentals for each zip code according to Netflix. Various other blogs have already commented on how this chart reflects stark sociological differences across the region, but GM was particularly drawn to a much more local issue.

Georgetown is made up of two zip codes: 20057 and 20007. The first contains only the university. The second contains all the full-year residents (as well as Burleith, Glover Park and the Palisades). Thus 20007 is “Town” and 20057 is “Gown.”

So how do our choices match up?

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Last Saturday, a mugger held up a pedestrian on the 3200 block of Reservoir. When he walked away with the victim’s wallet, the victim started to call the cops. The mugger saw this and ran back and stole the phone too and got away. Cheers to the victim for making an effort to call the cops as soon as possible. While it didn’t turn out as planned, GM thinks you’re awfully courageous.
  • DCist stops by for some hearty snacks at the Tombs.
  • Georgetown Voice digs into the Party Patrol.

ANC Roundup: Marathon Edition

As “prequeled” yesterday, GM attended a brutal marathon-like ANC meeting Monday night. After a long warm-down run and a good night’s sleep, GM is now ready to give an account of the race.
