Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Jack Evans is asking for a chance to explain himself.
• It’s always a good time for tiki drinks. And Farmers Fishers and Bakers has always had one of the best tiki drinks in the city.

ANC 2E will be meeting for its July meeting next Monday, July 1st. Since there’s no August meeting, this will be the last meeting until September. As such, this meeting tends to be one of the longer ones.

There are not blockbuster topics on the agenda, but a couple might spark your interests:

• The future of Jelleff Field
• The future of 5G wireless towers in Georgetown
• The effort by the BID to bring more predictability to the Old Georgetown Board proceedings
• A new accessory dwelling unit application

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Big changes planned for the Marriott on the other side of Key Bridge.
• Jack Evans is not excited about a news reporter approaching him on the street.

Friday morning at 6 am, federal agents pounded on the door of Councilmember Jack Evans. They were there with a warrant to search his house. Agents from the FBI spent the next three hours going in and out of his house with boxes of evidence. The entire block was closed off, and Evans spent the entire affair seated in a car across the street. It was surely the lowest political point he’s experienced in his 28 years as Ward 2 Councilmember.

The search appears to have been in response to the revelations of an ethics investigation conducted by WMATA. The law firm investigating on behalf of the ethics committee identified several ethical violations by Evans while serving as chairman of WMATA. After falsely stating earlier last week that he was “cleared” by the committee, Evans admitted that in fact he wasn’t and then resigned from the board. Then the FBI showed up Friday morning.

It is too early to tell what is going to happen for Evans. The DC Council, which has taken a relatively cautious approach so far, stripped him of his coveted chairmanship of the finance committee and announced the formation of an ad hoc committee to investigate him. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• If you’ve been under a rock: the FBI raided Jack Evans’ house on Friday.
• FYI: there are outlets and free Wifi on the back patio of the library, if you’re looking for nice place to work.

Tudor Place

A highly regarded deli that specializes in bagels is opening its second location in Georgetown. The deli, called Call Your Mother, has maintained a location in Park View for a little under a year, but it is already quite popular. Calling itself a Jew-ish deli, it pulls on the traditions of northern cities delis, but with a twist.

The deli will be opened in 3428 O St., which is the location of the soon to close Greenworks flower shop. Call Your Mother’s owner, Andrew Dana, told Eater that he was attracted to the pink building. So maybe the garish paint job will stay (much to the consternation of a lot of people, GM estimates). Continue reading →
