The Stores of Georgetown 2018 – First Look
GM’s been a bit lazy this year and only just got around to performing his annual(ish) census of all the stores, restaurants, and other establishments of Georgetown. The last snapshot he took was in July 2017, so this most recent survey will cover about 15 months of changes. But last year’s snapshot was taken after 14 months, so this is most par for the course.
Today GM is going to just give a quick first look at the numbers. Drumroll please!

Mono Diner Taking Shape
The warmth of summer extended well into October this year. But summer itself technically ended almost a month ago. And that means that the promised Summer 2018 delivery of the Mono Diner at 1424 Wisconsin Ave. was missed.
Nonetheless, the window coverings are down and the interior furnishings are installed. It appears an actual opening is imminent. Continue reading

Georgetown Could’ve Lived the Lake Life
A fascinating map created by the Army Corps of Engineers from 1884 demonstrates that Georgetown could’ve almost been lakeside.
The map, from the George Washington University Museum collection, was highlighted yesterday by the museum. What it depicts was the plan to convert Rock Creek into a large reservoir by constructing a large dam across the gorge.
