As GM foretold, yet another of the “suit shops” on the 1300 block of Wisconsin Ave. has closed. This one is Studio.

A sign says that the store has moved to 1251 Wisconsin, which is the former Reebok store. It’s not clear whether that is a permanent move, or just a temporary stay.

This leaves just two (or three if you count Riccardi, which is certainly in better physical shape than the others, but which also partakes of the skeezy “Going Out of Business” scam sales) inexpensive suit shops on this block. Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• The new George Saunders book takes place in Oak Hill Cemetery and tells the story of Abraham Lincoln visiting the tomb of his dead son Willie.
• A great rundown on all the major development projects in the works for Georgetown.

1300 block of Wisconsin Ave.

The ANC will meet for its March meeting next Monday night (which will still be February, but whatever).

Some interesting things to note about the meeting:

• Jack Evans will be there
• An announcement about the proposed boathouses on the Potomac
• A presentation on the BID’s proposal to reconfigure Water St.
• It’s not on the agenda, but GM was under the impression that the BID will also be seeking the ANC’s endorsement of the gondola plan

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• GM has long heard that Trader Joe’s was the target for the redeveloped Holiday Inn space just north of Georgetown. This confirms it.
• GM doesn’t agree that the Exorcist Steps are a great place to cry. Surely Dumbarton Oaks would be better?

Montrose Park

Last week GM wrote about the signs put up in the 1950s around Georgetown celebrating the old names for the streets. In response, somebody pointed out to him that another somewhat rare relic of DC transportation past shows up around Georgetown: the Pineapple topped signal poles.

They seem to have only been used for traffic signals. And perhaps since most traffic signals in Georgetown are the more elaborate Washington Globe-style with lights, GM could only find these poles at intersections that only previously had traffic signals.

For instance, they are at 30th and P, where there was a traffic signal until about five years ago. Here you can see how the were converted from traffic signal posts to not-really-doing-anything-anymore posts:
