Now and a Long Time Ago: O St.

This week for Now and a Long Time Ago, GM is visiting O St. and an idyllic postcard that the Ebay listing for it says is from the 50’s or 60’s.

The specific block is O St. just west of Wisconsin Ave. Nowadays it is a mix of antiques shops, a gym, and some restaurants. The watercolor depiction of the street doesn’t make it clear what type of shops all the shops were. But the shop of the far left appears to be called “Georgetown Temptations”. Post archives indicate that Martha Wrenn Bobbitt McTigue operated a shop in Georgetown with that name from 1965 till 1975. It was described as a gift shop. Continue reading

ANC Candidate Forum Tonight

Tonight the Citizens Association of Georgetown will be hosting a forum for candidates for the ANC. The meeting will be at Dumbarton House from 7:00 to 8:30.

GM and John Lever will be moderating the forum. So if you have any questions that you’d like to hear addressed, drop it in the comments below. And see you there!

Yard Sale to Support a Great School

GM’s daughter’s fantastic school, the Children’s House of Washington, is having a yard sale this weekend to help raise money. It will have some great stuff. Just imagine, you could even walk home with GM’s very own vacuum cleaner! Please stop by this Saturday at the Dumbarton Ave. Methodist Church (just off of Wisconsin) from 9 am to 1 pm!
