Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• The former couple who own Evermay, Halcyon House, and a bunch other expensive Georgetown property, is going to own slightly less expensive Georgetown property soon.
• Josh Hermias, a familiar face to Georgetown, is looking to open an incredibly unusual restaurant. Given that he used to helm Minibar, it’ll probably be pretty good. Come back to Georgetown Josh!

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• The Whole Foods in Glover Park is actually going to reopen after all.
• The time an activist threatened to release opossum-rats in Georgetown to force the city to address the problem elsewhere.

Potomac River

A Georgetown teen (and GM’s neighbor and a top notch babysitter) is spearheading an effort to construct a new memorial to honor the women who served on the home front during World War II. She was featured on the CBS Evening News last night.

Kenney has been literally been working on this since she was a fifth grader. She has testified in front of Congress multiple times (one representative recently recognized her from the time she had testified before him years ago). She’s garnered the support of Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and a host of organizations. This thing is going to get built. Pretty impressive accomplishment for a teenager.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• GM noticed what looked like another police raid on a pot dealer last night. This one was the Empie Smokeshop at 1610 Wisconsin Ave. This is just one block from that other pot shop that cops have raided twice already.
• It sure seems like someone at the Watergate hacks a whole row of trees on NPS property every winter to keep the view.

Rock Creek Parkway

This week on Georgetown Time Machine, GM is exploring a great photo of the former Precint 7 Police station that stands on the 3200 block of Volta Place.

The photo comes from the Historical Society of Washington, DC, and is specifically from the fantastic Henry Wagner photo collection. Mr. Wagner lived with his family on M St. during the turn of the 20th century. This particular photo comes from between 1900 and 1910. Continue reading →
