Update: Dean & Deluca Catering Van Gone

As the leaves turn to brilliant color to toll their own doom, so does death come for all of us. But it first comes for the abandoned Dean & Deluca catering van. Sometime in the last four days, the grim reaper collected his due in the form of a tow truck. It is gone. Long live the abandoned Dean & Deluca catering van.

ANC Preview: No, November Rain (of agenda items)

The ANC will meet for its November session next Monday at Georgetown Visitation at 6:30 pm. The agenda (below) has a couple interesting items worth highlighting.

First, Councilmember Robert White will be in attendance. White is an at-large councilmember (and up for election next year). He doesn’t stop by Georgetown that much (he represents the whole city, so you can’t blame him too much for that) so if you want to raise an issue with him, now’s your opportunity Apparently just a rep from White’s office will be there, not CM White himself.

There will be a couple of liquor license renewals, which are mostly not that interesting. But a new supposedly high-end cocktail bar is going into the old Smith Point space. This location created a lot of problems for residents along N St., so they are on guard over a new operation. But it sounds like negotiations for an acceptable settlement agreement are well underway. Street Closures for Halloween Night

This Halloween a group of streets off of M St. will be closed to vehicular traffic. This is to discourage visitors from driving through the side streets, which will be full of kids trick or treating.

The city used to shut down most of the side streets, which made it much nicer on streets like P St. or Q St., which can be mobbed. But sadly they don’t do that any more. By blocking off basically all the “cut-through” routes from M, the current plan is more of a nudge than a hammer, and it probably has similarly modest results. Continue reading
