ANC2E Commissioner Joins Challengers to Evans

Jack Evans has many legal challenges ahead of him as he deals with a federal investigation into possible corruption. On top of his legal issues, he is now facing five different Ward 2 residents announcing runs against him for next year’s Ward 2 Democratic primary. That includes Foggy Bottom’s Patrick Kennedy, Dupont’s John Fanning and Daniel Hernandez, Shaw’s Jordan Grossman, and, as of June 26, Kishan Putta, ANC 2E Commissioner representing Burleith.

Putta was elected to ANC2E for the first time last fall, knocking off longtime commissioner Ed Solomon. But it wasn’t his first time on an ANC. He served on the Dupont Circle ANC before moving to Burleith several years ago. (ANC2E mostly includes Georgetown, but Putta’s district includes Burleith and Hillandale). Continue reading

New Bagel Shop Coming to Georgetown Just Named One of Best New Restaurants In the Country

D.C. had record breaking rainfall today (over 3 inches in an hour, far exceeding the 1.5 inches young trees need weekly). Check your young trees later in the week and water if needed.”

So the let-off won’t last that long. By next week, pending more torrential downpours, it should be back to normal. Continue reading

Uber’s Odd Map

Over the weekend, Twitter user, Raynell, noticed an odd map when he accessed Uber’s map via his phone’s browser. The map looked normal, but it was filled with odd historical names.

It appears this is the result of Uber populating the map with data of historical names from the USGS. But GM thought he’d take the opportunity to explain the Georgetown names. (Unfortunately GM couldn’t replicate the map, and can only use the screenshot from Raynell).

Here are the historical references:

City Tavern: This is still around! It’s the City Tavern Club at 3206 M St. It’s a private club with a lovely building filled with remarkable history. For instance, it was a popular social setting for George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson around the time of the creation of the District of Columbia. Continue reading
