GM previewed the ANC meeting yesterday, but there were a few tidbits about new stores that didn’t make it in. Plus, GM is aware of some other openings. So here’s a brief roundup:
Goorin Bros. Hat Shop
GM mentioned this hipster hat shop last week, but now he knows the address: 1214 Wisconsin Ave. (the former location of Aerosoles). It’s a small little shop that hasn’t had a particularly attractive store front for a while. Hopefully the Goorin Bros. will spiff it up a bit.

Next Tuesday at 6:30 pm the November ANC meeting will be held at its normal location at Georgetown Visitation. On a personal note, this will be a sad occasion since it will be the first ANC meeting without fellow blogger Shaun Courtney to share the pain with. As GM previewed last week, the Four Seasons/Levy Group is lobbying hard to present the need to tear down three of the four facades as unavoidable. There are some (both on the ANC and in other community groups) that object to that position and would like to push back on the need to tear down the structure. (Full disclosure: GM is on the board of CAG, which may or may not take a position on this question. For what it’s worth, he has not personally made a decision either way.) Continue reading

As GM mentioned last Friday, local architect Robert Bell has purchased the old Georgetown theater building at Wisconsin and O. GM has seen the plans and can report that the project envisions a truly mixed use for the building, with residential, retail, and office space all under the same roof.
But first one disappointing feature: it does not appear the Bell will attempt to recreate the whimsical facade that once adorned this building:
