ANC Round-Up – The Prequel
GM attended an absolutely brutal marathon of an ANC meeting last night. The final gavel didn’t fall until about 10:30. As a result, GM didn’t have time for a finely crafted luxurious write up for today. But just to get the slighly more significant news out there, here are the highlights:
- Q St. construction will begin in two weeks. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout construction.
- No ANC-wide single-sales-ban waiver will be adopted anytime soon.
- Johnny Rockets will likely get approved to serve beer and wine, but mostly stay the same.
There’s more, but that’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

- Eight foot tall fiberglass heart sculpture to reach Georgetown, and other neighborhoods, from Colombia.
- “Dear Georgetown students. Just a few general requests this year…”
- The George nightclub opened up last week in the old Georgetown Billiards space.

Georgetown Cupcake to Take Over Starbucks Space
As reported by the Post yesterday, Georgetown Cupcake is planning on opening a larger sit down cupcakery on M St. GM heard through the grapevine that the actual space they’re moving to is the old Starbucks space at 3301 M St. The space has been empty for quite a while since it was flooded and then added to Starbucks downsizing plans.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- Dolley Madison family day tomorrow 10 to 2 at Dumbarton House. Come celebrate Dolley’s escape from the White House (Dumbarton House was her first stop) with games and cake.
- After celebrating the War of 1812, come over and let the National Parks Service tell you about Georgetown during the Civil War. It’s at 12:15 at the C & O Canal at Thomas Jefferson St.
- A resident suggested to the Georgetown listserv that DDOT install speed bumps next to Montrose Park. GM thinks people speed too much there (which is to say they speed at all), but that other traffic calming measures are more effective (such as resurfacing the road with something rougher than asphalt). What do you think?
