The Morning Metropolitan

Good Tuesday morning Georgetown. It’s a bit of a slow news day around the village, but this is what comes to mind:

  • Andy Johnson informs GM that the Zoning Board approved his application for Sarah’s Market to provide dry cleaning drop off/pick up service
  • Big-boned reality star Ruby Gettinger led a mile-long walk at Georgetown University
  • While they lost a hot basketball prospect, G.U. snapped up this year’s fastest high school miler. Middle distance runners, you have nothing to lose but your loneliness!

When Alumni Attack…A Peaceful Saturday Morning

GM reported on this in the ANC round-up, but Georgetown Current reporter Carol Buckley takes much better notes than him and got the details of the proposed alumni march. Here is the controversial proposed route:

The alumni were proposed to gather in front of Trinity Church on 36th St., travel up 36th to O, and walk west to the University gates. This would be a slight modification from last year when they gathered on 36th above O St. and walked south to O and then west to the gates.

SmartBike Set to Expand to Georgetown, But by How Much?

As reported by WTOP, SmartBike DC, the bike-sharing program started last year by the District Department of Transportation, is planning to spend $3 million from the stimulus package to dramatically expand the number of stations and bikes they offer. According to the WTOP report, the city is set to quintuple the number of stations from 10 to 50 and the number of bikes from 100 to 500. Georgetown is set to benefit from this expansion, but by how much and could it be more?
