Georgetown Waterfront Park

Today and tomorrow they are filming the Commander Salamander scenes for Wonder Woman 2. And as part of it they are closing of parts of Wisconsin Ave. Today, from 9:30 to to 3:30 pm they’re closing Wisconsin from K St. to M St. And tomorrow, during the same time they’re are closing Wisconsin Ave. all the way from K St. to Volta Place.

It’s not clear whether they’ll try to restrict pedestrian or bike traffic as well. Production Assistants will surely claim tell people that they aren’t allowed to walk through, but they’re normally lying about it. There’s really nothing they can do to actually prevent you from walking down a public sidewalk. (If they’re are cops around, however, listen to them). Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• GM missed this detail when reporting on the faux Commander Salamander: the founder of Commander Salamander owns Reddz Trading, which is right next door to the fake store. She apparently has lent some old clothes to lend the interior some realism.
• Decent list of Georgetown restaurants (though it probably could have included a couple more of the cheaper restaurants up Wisconsin Ave.)

3400 block of Volta Pl.

Signage has gone up at 1332 Wisconsin Ave. announcing the imminent arrive of the Dough Jar, a shop dedicated to selling you the forbidden fruit of raw (but safe) cookie dough.

Everyone who made cookies as a kid knows the bliss of snacking on a bit (or more) of the cookie dough before it went into the oven. Sure, it technically had raw eggs in it, what of it?

The Dough Jar is a DC product, having been developed at the Union Kitchen, a commercial kitchen open to foody entrepreneurs. It offers a variety of jars of cookie dough of varying flavors, like chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and others. Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• The Walking Store closed.
• Bourbon Steak, despite the name, apparently excels at wine.

2900 block of Dumbarton St.

In connection with the filming of Wonder Woman 2, the production crew has painted 1415 Wisconsin Ave. to appear like the much loved former Commander Salamander.

This is consistent with the rumors that this movie is going to be set in the 80s, which was the heydays of the funky shop. This is also consistent with GM’s prediction made a couple weeks ago:

The movie is supposedly going to be set in the 1980s. And GM’s theory is that they are going to temporarily use the former Appalachian Spring space and turn it into an 80s era shop, or the like.

If only there were some sort of a betting market for stuff like this, GM could’ve made a bundle! Continue reading →
