Busriders Who Talk Too Loudly on Their Cellphone

Los Autobus

Second in our series of “Busriders Who Talk Too Loudly on Their Cellphone”, GM presents Woman Who Moved Here From LA. If you employ this woman, she’s not happy that you’re not paying for Blackberry, home Internet, and dinner at the office.  If you’re dating her, you might be the person that she has “trust issues with”. It’s not entirely clear because at some point she realized that she’s “on the bus…on the BUS…the BUS…AUTOBUS, estoy en la AUTOBUS!” so an ounce of awareness finally crept in, although not enough to get her to hang up.

GM admits this isn’t the most embarrassing cell phone blather he’s heard on the bus, but just let it serve as a reminder: if you feel like having a loud cell phone conversation on the D2, a transcript very well may end up here.

Royalty Moving to Georgetown?

As DCist noted, the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia is reporting that the Duke and Dutchess of Palma de Mallorca are planning on moving to Washington (she’s the youngest daughter of the King of Spain). According to Google Translate’s manglings, the paper wrote:

The Dukes of Palma is planning to move to Washington because of the professional Iñaki Urdangarín, whom their advisor responsible international Telefónica forced him to travel with increasing frequency in United States.

After almost 20 years of residence in Barcelona, the city where in 1997 he married Iñaki Urdangarín born and where his sons, Juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene, the Infanta Cristinabegins a new family at the moment is temporarily with a yet undetermined time that depends exclusively on the professional obligations of the Duke of Palma.

While the family is “temporarily with a yet undetermined time”, GM doesn’t think it’s too early to speculate that they’ll choose Georgetown. Where else would a Spanish royal want to live than Everymay? What’s $49 million to an infanta?

So would you welcome los realeza or do we not need a bunch of Spanish secret service creeping around?

Greater Georgetown – Open Table Edition

As part of an ongoing, if infrequent, series the Georgetown Metropolitan attempts to document the more egregious examples of people and places claiming to be in Georgetown that are clearly not. Today GM explores Opentable.com. The convenient restaurant reservation finder is pretty lax in its geographic boundaries. Check out what restaurants are identified as being located in Georgetown:

Details on How to Get Free Safeway Delivery

GM told you all about Safeway’s plan to give us free delivery during the construction of Social Safeway Jr. A helpful reader has provided the Georgetown Metropolitan with a little more detail on how exactly to claim that free delivery:

1.    Go to Safeway.com
2.    Create a New Account
3.    Order over $50 worth of groceries
4.    When you checkout, use the promotion code “FREE642”

This deal reaches significantly beyond just Georgetown. Anyone in the following zip codes can partake: 20005, 20006, 20007, 20008, 20009, 20010, 20036 & 20037. That’s a huge chunk of NW DC, covering ground from Georgetown all the way over to Dupont, Logan and Columbia Heights. 20008 alone goes from Kalorama all the way up to Friendship Heights.

But there’s one zip code pretty close to Safeway that’s not covered: 20052, otherwise known as the campus of the George Washington University. Ouch. That’s no way to draw students away from Trader Joe’s.
