The Georgetown Metropolitan

The other day, GM reported on the proposals to increase Circulator service across the District. The additions are great and will be well appreciated. But them came at a steep cost to Georgetown riders. These changes (summarized here), coupled with recent changes to the 30 series, significantly degrades the bus service for Georgetowners. DDOT should think long and hard before making these changes.

The Good

If the proposed additions came with no reductions to current service, this would be a fantastic change. DDOT is proposing to extend Circulator service up Wisconsin Ave. to National Cathedral. It is also proposing to extend the Rosslyn to Dupont route (which goes through Georgetown) to U St. Outside of Georgetown, DDOT is proposing a route to the National Mall, and small extensions to other lines. Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Last night’s Candidate forum included only David Catania, as expected, but a good group of people came out to watch a great conversation.
• If you’re getting a tour of Georgetown, Joe Sternleib and his staff are a great guide to choose.

Georgetown Waterfront

Just a reminder: tonight the Citizens Association of Georgetown will host a Mayoral Candidate(s) Forum. The reception will begin at 7:00, with the forum starting at 7:30. GM calls it a Candidate(s) Forum because as of right now only Councilmember David Catania is confirmed to attend. Carol Schwartz cannot make it because it falls on Rosh Hashanah. CAG has repeatedly reached out to Councilmember Muriel Bowser, but has not received a response, either positive or negative.

So at this point it looks like it will be a single candidate forum, but that’s still pretty good! It will not simply be an opportunity for CM Catania to give a stump speech. Davis Kennedy of the Current, Robert Devaney of the Georgetowner, and GM himself still plan to grill Catania on a wide range of issues. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Big news: Doggett’s Parking Lot on Prospect being developed into new retail building.
• Big changes possibly coming to the Circulator, including routes from Georgetown to the Cathedral and Georgetown to U St. GM will write a bit more about this for later this week.

3200 block of O St.

As the banner above announces, Volta Park Day is coming up on October 5th! As in past years, it will include food, rides, games, a flea market and much more!

The fair begins at 3:00 and runs to 6:00. The famed East vs. West Softball game starts at 2:00.

There will be a special tribute by the band Basement Riot. Ed Lara, the drummer for the band and owner of Georgetown Hairstyling, died suddenly the day after playing for the Friends of Volta Park’s spring cocktail party. It should be an emotional and enjoyable time for all!

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Tomorrow night at the Dumbarton House, there will be a Mayoral forum held by CAG. Unfortunately, so far only David Catania has confirmed that he can come. Carol Schwartz has a conflict and Muriel Bowser has not responded yet. Even if it’s only Catania, it should still be a good event. The moderators will be Robert Devaney of the Georgetowner, Davis Kennedy of the Georgetown Current and yours truly.
• Bruce Allen’s Q&A Cafe talk delayed, mascot still racist.
