Crime Ticked Up This Summer

Yesterday GM took a look at the summer real estate numbers and concluded that not much changed from the spring. Today he turns to the crime numbers, and unfortunately the news is not the same. The crime numbers are up overall, although not necessarily where you’d think.

This summer there were 262 crimes reported to MPD. In the spring that number was 230. That’s a 14% jump. Not good. Continue reading

Third Quarter Real Estate Numbers Show Little Has Changed

The real estate numbers for the third quarter are in, and little has changed from the last quarter.

For instance, last quarter’s numbers looked like this:

  • 68 homes sold
  • Average Price: $1,382,820
  • Average drop in price from list to sale: 9%

This quarter had some mixed results. The number of homes sold was essentially the same, but the average price dropped a lot. However, the average drop in home price from initial list to sale dropped a lot. Continue reading

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • The Georgetown Library will have its ribbon cutting next Monday at 10:45 AM. The party just keeps going when on Saturday the library celebrates its 75th anniversary with a grand opening party from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM.
  • The anatomy of a Georgetown Cupcake line-dweller. (For what it’s worth, ever since Baked and Wired has been dubbed the official place-you’re-supposed-to-mention-when-casting-scorn-on-Georgetown-Cupcake, GM has noticed its lines get kinda bad when he’s passed by[which has also coincided with the shutting down of the Thomas Jefferson St. bridge which the owners of B&W were all in angst over]).

What the Inside of the Library Looks Like Now

Last week, GM show you a few snap shots of what the new library will hold, today he’ll pan out a bit and show you what the interior looks like. It’s quite a striking new interior and Georgetown has a renewed treasure in its midsts.

The first space you’ll see is the grand lobby. The high ceilings give the room a church-like air. And while the detailing reminds you that this is a historic building, the glass encased stairway down to the lower level tells you that this new building is going to be a mix of the new with the old. (By the way here’s what this room was supposed to look like; it turned out pretty much as they promised:

Some Updates to “Aren’t They Building…”

Up above GM has a link to “Aren’t They Building…” where he lists various projects around Georgetown and when those projects might come to fruition.

GM’s got to update the list, here’s what’s new:

UGGs Store: Open

Serendipity3: Still no word around the rumor mill when it’ll open, but GM’s guess of summer 2010 was clearly off.

Madewell: Still no firm date, but again GM guessed wrong about a summer opening. Continue reading
