As GM discussed recently, the owners of 3020 Cambridge Place came before the ANC and the Old Georgetown Board twice recently to request the installation of a parking pad on their property adjoining the alley behind their house.
In May, the owners (who apparently don’t actually live there) requested approval to construct the parking pad. The ANC, perhaps in deference to the strong showing from neighbors objecting to the construction, decided not to approve the designs. Good morning Georgetown. GM’s prayers are with the victims of the Metrorail crash yesterday and their friends and families. While it seems particularly trite this morning, here’s the latest:

Georgetown residents may have received a card in the mail recently from Safeway promising 10% off groceries when you purchase them at various area stores. A quick tip: make sure to bring your Safeway Club Card. When you present it to any of the area Safeways, the discount is automatically applied (assuming you signed up for the Club Card with a 20007 zip code). Just today, GM saved 30 bucks on a $160 of groceries by using the Club Card. Between free delivery and huge discounts, getting our Safeway knocked down is turning out to be the best thing to happen to Georgetown grocery shoppers in a long time.

As early as last August, just a few weeks after the initial roll-out, DDOT was already talking about expanding the program to places like Georgetown or Capitol Hill. This spring, DDOT filled our heads with visions of 50 stations, then 100. GM was certain that we’d have SmartBike in Georgetown by this Summer.
Turns out he was wrong.
GM heard through the grapevine that the expansion has hit a major snag. Continue reading
