ANC2E Meets, Receives No Respect

They were dying out there tonight.  Owners of no less than nine of the twelve properties up for review tonight by the ANC2E simply didn’t show up. No respect, ANC2E, no respect at all…

Well despite GM’s prediction of boring with a chance tedium, tonight’s ANC meeting was at least moderately interesting. On top of no respect being gotten, the old town-and-gown fight was stirred up, Scheeles Market situation was discussed, and yet another pizza place is opening up. Find out more after the jump:

Halcyon House Is Slashing Prices

There’s a bumper crop of historic Georgetown mansions for sale right now. GM’s talked about Evermay before, but hasn’t discussed the other landmark property on the market: Halcyon House (once you’re a landmark property you get silly names like that). It went on the market around the same time as Evermay, but for $30 million to Evermay’s $49 million.

Well that difference just got even bigger. On March 26, the asking price of Halcyon House was cut all the way “down” to $19 million. That’s a 37% drop.

It’s not clear how many potential buyers that will entice. Are there really that many people out there that won’t spend $30 million on a house, but would spend $19 million? Maybe there’s some wealthy magnate that got out when the time was right and knows a steal when he sees one.

The next question: will Evermay follow?

Mad Butcher Still in the Cards?

GM was so wrapped up in Apple store talk, that he didn’t get very deep into the Old Georgetown Board agenda from March, but sitting in there is some potentially bad news: Jonathan Umbel’s plan to bring a butcher to Georgetown seems to have stalled.

City Paper Staff ♥ Georgetown

The Washington City Paper released its Best of D.C. 2009 listings this week. The twist they’re adding this year is to focus more on the runner-ups than on the actual winners. For a Georgetown angle, consider that despite the fact that most City Paper staffers are probably more inclined to spend a day or night out in Columbia Heights or U St., Georgetown does surprisingly well on their staff picks (don’t even waste your time with their reader surveys. Like all reader surveys, theirs is predictably useless). Find out what parts of Georgetown the cool kids at City Paper would be caught dead in.

Waste Management Electronica Will be Created by Creepy Nurses from the 19th Century, Apparently

See if you can understand this:

Al Gore + Florence Nightingale = This

Waste management electronica will be created? Bicycle powered stage lights? Adults only?

Conclusion: Swedes are weird.
