As discussed a little while back, Nathans is facing an uncertain future. Owner Carol Joynt has been struggling to work out an extension of her lease which ends March 31st. Today she sent out an update, check it out after the jump:
Que Street to Really Suck Soon
Today the Georgetown Current reported on a community meeting last week on impending construction on Que St. between Dumbarton Bridge and 27th St. Anyone who remembers the “Georgetown Project” will surely not look forward to this.

Ralph Lauren Specialty Store To Close
The Washington Business Journal reports that Ralph Lauren specialty store RRL (apparently pronounced “Double-R L”) will close this coming weekend. Apparently three different Ralph Lauren stores on Wisconsin is one too much. The vintage-ish store has been open since June 2007.
GM has never gone to RRL (it’s awfully easy to walk right by the place without even noticing it), but maybe there’ll be specials this weekend to make it worth the first and last visit.
Neither Rugby nor the normal Ralph Lauren store at 1245 Wisconsin will be affected by the closing.

East Versus West
People new to Georgetown are often surprised to come across the insular terms East Village and West Village. They are terms used to distinguish those parts of Georgetown on either side of Wisconsin Ave. Beyond simple geography, these terms often carry with them loaded associations, most of which are unjustified in GM’s opinion. So what’s the deal with the two villages?

Celebrate Washington’s Birthday at Tudor Place
Tudor Place was built in 1805 by the granddaughter of Martha Washington (i.e. the step-granddaughter of our first president). To celebrate George Washington’s birthday today, Tudor Place is holding a celebration of our presidents:
Celebrate our country’s Presidents at Tudor Place. Families enjoy an interactive tour of the 1816 mansion and children’s crafts, including an art workshop with Tudor Place Artist-in-Residence Peter Waddell. George Washington’s 1775 letter to Martha Washington will be on public viewing for this day only. The letter, written on the eve of Washington’s departure from Philadelphia to take command of the Continental Army, reveals the human and sentimental side of this revered hero. Martha Washington herself will read the letter at 11:00! After the reading, join Martha for a traditional tea ceremony featuring her famous pound cake! Artifacts and manuscripts from other Presidents will also be on view.
Sure, Mount Vernon would seem to be a more appropriate place to celebrate Washington, but that’s all the way down in Virginia! Why not take in one of Georgetown’s most elegant estates instead.
(Hint to Dumbarton Oaks: This is the sort of event that good neighbors do).

30 Series Buses Now Available on NextBus
As described here, the great NextBus system is available right now (even though it’s supposed to be in a testing phase). When GM first reported it though, the 30 series wasn’t hooked up. This meant the service wasn’t that helpful to a whole lot of Georgetown residents.
Well at some point recently the NextBus system added the 30 Series. Check it out here.

Ginkgogate Continues!!!
The last several days have been unseasonably balmy. Stepping out on the sidewalk and taking in a deep breath, for a moment you almost can smell spring. But then…wait a minute. That’s not spring that you smell. You can still smell the god damn ginkgos! They’re still on the trees and on our sidewalks! While the last month or so has meant a frosty casing around that butanoic acid, this early thaw has meant release for this putrid substance.
